Team 4

  1. Filling In the Chart: Ratio

    1. Union Pacific: What is 75% of 1,085 miles? What is 25% of 1,085 miles? (The two should add up to 1,085.)

    2. Central Pacific: What is 75% of 690 miles? What is 25% of 690 miles? (The two should add up to 690.)

  2. Filling in the Chart: 100%

    1. Take the total number of miles for each company separately and multiply it by the amount of money specified.

    2. Compare your answers from this question to the answers from Question 1. Which scenario gives the Union Pacific the most money? Which gives the Central Pacific the most money?

  3. Money Earned:

    1. Explain in your opinion which company was most likely to earn the most money. Did one have more opportunity to earn more money than the other because of the terrain? â€‹

    2. Compare the amount of money your chosen company made to the amount of money the other company made in the same scenario. For example: if you said the Union Pacific made the most money in the 75/25 scenario, then compare that to the amount of money the Central Pacific made in the 75/25 scenario.

    3. If company A earned $2 and company B earned $4, how many TIMES more money did company B make than company A? How did you solve that? Use the same operation to solve for the difference between the Central Pacific and Union Pacific companies.

  4. Land Earned:

    1. First calculate how much land each company earned.

    2. How did you solve Question 3 part 1? What can you learn from there that will help you solve this question?

  5. Infographic/Poster: The purpose of an infographic is for people to see and understand information quickly.

    1. What visual elements can you include that are easy to understand?

    2. Use moderate colors, not too bright. Pick 2 or 3 and stick to those.

    3. Try drawing your idea out on a piece of paper before actually creating it. This way you can plan enough space for words and pictures.
